Dhaka, Saturday, 2 April 2016: In commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, UNIC Dhaka jointly with Ananda Niketon European School (ANES) organized a Seminar and Cultural event at school meeting room on 2 April 2016. The key-note paper was presented by autistic expert and psychologist Ms Narsis Rahman while Chairperson of ANES Dr Mahmudul Hasan delivered introductory speech. They focused on various issues of autism disorders and have put emphasis on awareness programme. In his speech, M. Moniruzzaman, UNIC Officer-in-Charge urged the policy makers, voluntary organizations and business community to come forward to the process of mainstreaming autistic people. Ms Momtaz Begum of UNIC read-out UN Secretary-General Message on the Day while Ms Romela Murshed, Coordinator of ANES delivered vote of thanks. The autistic children of ANES inclusive school took part in dance and musical show. Students, parents, teachers and guests took part in the event.

Commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day 2015: Cultural Performance by Autistic Children
Dhaka, 5 April 2015: In observance of World Autism Awareness Day, UNIC Dhaka and Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF) jointly organized a Cultural event with the participation of autistic children at BPF auditorium on 5 April 2015. An art exhibition was also opened at the beginning of the event. In his speech, M. Moniruzzaman, UNIC Officer-in-Charge urged the policy makers and voluntary organizations to come forward with appropriate steps to meet the challenges of the people with autism. The Executive Director of BPF Dr. Shamim Ferdous presided over the function while Kazi Ali Reza, Director (Communication) of Dhaka Ahsania Mission spoke as Chief guest. They focused on various issues of autism disorders and have put emphasis on awareness programme. The autistic children of BPF Inclusive School took part in dance and musical show. Around 200 children, parents, teachers and guests took part in the event.

Tribute to the Language Fighters: International Mother Language Day Observed
Dhaka, 21 February: In celebration of International Mother Language Day, UNIC Dhaka, UNESCO Bangladesh and Daffodil International University (DIU) jointly organized a seminar, cultural show, drama and exhibition at DIU auditorium on 21 February 2015. UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh Ms. Beatrice Kuldun was the chief guest (represented by PO) while Prof Dr. Lutfar Rahman Vice-Chancellor of DIU presided over the session. The Pro-VC of DIU Prof Dr. Golam Rahman spoke as guest of honour and UNIC Officer-in-Charge M Moniruzzaman delivered a lecture as special guest. Language researcher Prof Dr. Begum Jahan ara of Dhaka University delivered a key-note speech. UNESCO Programme Officer Kizzy Tahnin read-out chief guest’s statement. All the speakers expressed their solidarity to victims of language movement who lost their lives during 1952. A cultural event and drama on mother language movement was staged before the audience. among others university students, young people, activists, media persons and UN officials took part in the programme. Mental Health Matters: Art Exhibition, Cultural show and Discussion Seminar – UN Agencies commemorated Int’l Youth Day
Dhaka, 12 August 2014: Mental Health issues always ignored in our society and a large proportion of young persons are experiencing mental health problems globally, especially countries like Bangladesh. Quoting a new UN publication the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated in his 2014 Int’l Youth Day (IYD) Message that ‘20 per cent of the world’s young people experience a mental health condition each year’. The theme of this year’s IYD is ‘Mental Health Matters’ and slogan is ‘Youth and Mental Health’. Highlighting the theme of IYD, UNIC Dhaka with the partnership of UNFPA, UNV and Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF) organized an Art Exhibition, Discussion and Cultural events at BPF auditorium on 12 August 2014. UN Resident Coordinator a.i, UNFPA Representative and Chairperson of UN Adolescent and Youth Group Ms Argentina Matavel Piccin opened the art exhibition and spoke in the discussion seminar as chief guest. The Officer-in-Charge of UNIC Dhaka M. Moniruzzaman delivered introductory speech and read-out UN Secretary-General’s Message on the Day while Principal of Kalyani Inclusive School, BPF Anuja Begum presided over the session. A dance and music was arranged, participated by BPF autistic children. A social media campaign with the artwork of Emon – an autistic youth also began last week.

World Autism Awareness Day 2014: Seminar, arts/crafts exhibition and cultural function
Dhaka, 7 April 2014: In observance of World Autism Awareness Day, UNIC Dhaka and Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF) jointly organized a seminar, arts/crafts exhibition and cultural function at BPF premises in Dhaka. UNIC Officer-in-Charge M. Moniruzzaman spoke on the occasion as chief guest while Executive Director of BPF Dr. Shamim Ferdous presided over. A video on ‘autistic spectrum disorder’ was screened before the audience. Bangla translated version of UNSG’s Message on the Day was read-out and distributed among the audience. A cultural function was performed by the autistic children of BPF autistic school. At the beginning, an art/craft exhibition was opened by UNIC OIC. Around 300 autistic children and their parents were present in the programme.

UN Day Seminar and Cultural Show 2013
Dhaka, 24 October: UNCT organized the UN Day observance through a seminar and cultural programme. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP was the chief guest while Dr Thushara E.I. FernandoUNRC ai, presided over the function. A renowned literary personality of Bangladesh Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed attended the function as the Special guest. UNIC OIC Kazi Reza presented a paper focusing on the national theme of the observance this year – Youth for Development: Perspective Bangladesh. A youth representative also spoke on the occasion. More than 1000 UN staff, senior government officials, diplomats, youth representatives, university students, civil society representatives attended the function. The seminar was followed by a cultural programme. UNIC Dhaka provided UN Communication Group secretariat services in organizing the event.
