UNIC Dhaka and UNIC New Delhi organized Cross-UNICs event to Mark Anti-Drug Abuse Day on 26 June 2014

In commemoration of Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, UNIC Dhaka, UNODC, Daffodil Int’l University (DIU) and LIFE organized a Music (video linkimages) and Interactive Discussion at DIU auditorium on 26 June 2014. The lyrics and tune of the music were produced by UNIC Dhaka based on the theme of the Day and they were shared with UNIC New Delhi, under Cross-UNICs initiative, for their use in Kolkata by UNA. The event was coordinated by UN HQs.

Lyricist and singer Taufiq Ahmed Priyo sang the song in Dhaka event which was very motivating and attracted the young audiences against drug use. Ten Resolutions adopted in BANMUN 2014 Conference, 24-26 June 2014

01The three-day long Bangladesh Model United Nations (BANMUN) conference ended on 26 July by adopting ten resolutions by ten committees under the theme of ‘Youth for Development’. Saida Muna Tasneem, Director-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Neal Walker, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh spoke in the closing session as chief guest and guest of honour respectively . Among others, M. Moniruzzaman, OIC, UNIC Dhaka, Dr Sayed Saikh Imtiaz, Chairman, UNYSAB Trustee Board and Shahidul Alam, Principal, Oxford Int’l School spoke on the occasion. UN Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) in partnership with UNIC Dhaka organized the MUN conference at Oxford Int’l School during 24-24 June 2014. Prof Dalem Chandra Barman, the Vice-Chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh inaugurated the conference on 24 June as chief guest while UNYSAB President Mohammad Mamun Mia chaired the session. The Special guest were Mr KAM Morshed, Assistant Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh, Faiyaz Morshed Kazi , Director(UN), MoFA,  Principal of Oxford Int’l School, M. Moniruzzaman, OIC, UNIC Dhaka and Kazi Ali Reza, Director, Dhaka Ahsania Mission. UNIC Provided all the 220 delegates of 44 schools and colleges with a set of UN publications.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with young students from the New York area and with representatives of the countries taking part in the 2014 FédérationInternationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup, at a celebratory gathering to usher in the tournament. The soccer games will be hosted by Brazil from 12 June through 13 July.

Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level: World Environment Day Commemorated

Dhaka, 5 June 2014: Highlighting the theme of World Environment Day – Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level – UNIC Dhaka jointly with UNDP Bangladesh and Dept. of Soil, Water and Environment, University of Dhaka commemorated the World Environment Day through an interactive Seminar at Dhaka University RC Majumder Arts Auditorium on 5 June 2014. Mr Aminul Islam, Senior Advisor of UNDP Bangladesh presented the Key-note paper as Chief Guest, while the session was presided over by Prof Dr S M Imamul Huq of Dept of Soil, Water and Environment, Dhaka University. OIC of UNIC Dhaka M. Moniruzzaman delivered a speech focusing on the importance of the Day. He also read-out UN Secretary-General’s Message on the Day and it was distributed along with other publications among the audience. Mohammad Mamun Mia, Research Officer, Democratic Budget Movement also spoke on the occasion. The participating students took part in the open discussion and raised different issues relating to the theme of the Day. They also have put a number of suggestions to UN and Government to protect our environment.
