Dhaka, 01 October 2016: On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, Daily Alokito Bangladesh, in cooperation with UNIC Dhaka and other local partners, organized a round table discussion titled “Ageing problem: the role of the family and society” at Dhaka Ahsania Mission auditorium on 28 September 2016. The focus of this year – take a stand against ageism. The keynote paper was presented by the Secretary-General of Probin Hitoishi Sangha Professor A.S.M. Atiqur Rahman while the round-table was presided over by Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission. M. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in- Charge of UNIC Dhaka took part in the discussion and focused on the UN engagement in supporting elderly issues. Kazi Ali Reza, Joint Secretary of Daily Alokito Bangladesh moderated the round table discussion. “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” – Round-table on International Women’s Day 2015
Dhaka, 8 March: To mark the International Women’s Day 2015 with theme of Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity: Picture It!, UNIC Dhaka and Dhaka University Model UN Association jointly organized a round-table at Centre’s meeting room on 8 March 2015. Issues like Commission on the Status of Women-CSW, Beijing+20, contribution of women in economic activities, political awareness of girls, respect to women, rights practice in family, moral and ethical education and proper utilization of mass and social media were discussed in the round-table. UNIC Officer-in-Charge M. Moniruzzaman moderated the session. Among others DUMUNA President M.J.Sohel, Youth Icon Md. Mamun Mia and Journalist Sajed Rau spoke on the ocassion. UN Secretary-General’s video message on the Day was screened at the beginning of the event. University students and youth representatives and journalist took part in the round-table.
Round-table Seminar on Int’l Day of Families, 15 May 2014
The role of family is very important in personality building and socio-economic development. The reason behind social unrest is lack of moral education in family and social life. The foundation of morality begins at family level. The contribution of family, in making a peaceful democratic society, can not be ignored, speakers said in a round-table seminar.
The round-table seminar was organized by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Dhaka and World Wide Family Love Movement (WWFLM) to commemorate the Int’l Day of Families on 15 May at IDB Bhaban Conference Room. State Minister for Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh Government Ms Meher Afroze Chumki, MP spoke on the occasion as Chief Guest while UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Mr Neal Walker delivered his speech as Guest of Honour. UNIC Dhaka Officer-in-Charge M. Moniruzzaman delivered his welcome addressed and read-out UN Secretary-General’s Message on the Day.
The Officer-in-Charge of UNFPA Bangladesh Dr Prasanna Gunasekera, Cooprdinator (VAW) of UN Women Mr Mahtabul Hakim and Prof Dr Delwar Hossain, Dept. of Int’l Relations, Dhaka University were the special guests. Social Scientist Dr Nazneen Ahmed of BIDS and Chairperson of WWFLM Ms Tajkera Khair also spoke on the occasion. There was a panel of discussants including academia, researcher, celebrity and civil society members, who spoke about the contemporary issues of family life and the role of family members in MDGs. There were youth participants as well. The round-table was ended by a popular song.
