UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Message on Int’l Day of UN Peacekeepers – 29 May 2013

This year’s International Day of Peacekeepers is an opportunity to raise awareness about new developments in the field while honouring those who lost their lives over the past year serving under the blue flag.

United Nations peacekeeping is increasingly called on to deploy multi-dimensional operations to help countries transition from conflict to peace, with a significant focus on protecting civilians, including the most vulnerable among them: women and children. Continue reading

Seminar on World Family Day – 15 May 2013

UNIC Dhaka jointly with the World-wide Family Love Movement and the Ideal School and College Dhaka organized a discussion meeting at the college auditorium to mark the International Day of Families on 15 May 2013. Dr. Shahin Ara Begum, Principal of the College presided over the seminar while Ms Suraiya Begum, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Others who took part in the discussion included college teachers and WWFLM representatives Ms Tajkera Khayer and Dr. Joynab Begum. In the keynote speech, the UNIC Officer-in-Charge Kazi Ali Reza dwelt in length on the background of the Day and the important role played by the United Nations in keeping and promoting the concept of families for building a peaceful world. More than 200 girl students of the college participated in the discussions. The UN SG’s Message on the Day was read out by M. Moniruzzaman, KMO of UNIC Dhaka. Continue reading
