Seminar with Korean Youth Delegation: Youth, Peace and Volunteerism

A seminar on Youth, Peace and Volunteerism was organized by UNIC Dhaka on 18 February 2019 at Centre’s meeting room. The visiting Korean youth delegation and youth representatives of Dhakabashi Organization participated in the seminar. The various activities carried out by United Nations relating youth development were discussed in the seminar, the UNIC National Information Officer highlighted about the Centre’s engagement with youth groups for their capacity and skill development. The delegates focused about their volunteerism mission in Bangladesh and discussed on the aspects of strengthening working relationship with Bangladeshi youth groups. Among others, the President of Dhakabashi Organization, UNV Bangladesh Country Focal and Team leader of DAEYAYON/Nature Plus (Korea) took part in the discussion. All the delegates were provided with locally published UN publications.

Empowering Youth for Sustainable Development: A four-day long Dhaka University National Model UN (DUNMUN) Conference organized

UNRC, a.iA four-day long Dhaka University National Model UN (DUNMUN) Conference inaugurated at Dhaka University Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on 21 December 2014. The DUNMUN 2014 was organized by Dhaka University Model UN Association (DUMUNA) in cooperation with UNIC Dhaka, Action Aid and East Asia Study Center.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as chief guest while Ms Argentina Matavel Piccin, UN Resident Coordinator, a.i and UNFPA Representative spoke as guest of honour. Among others, DUMUNA Moderator Prof Dr Delwar Hossain, Mr Chen Chuang, Counselor of Cultural Affairs of Chinese Embassy, DUNMUN Secretary-General M. J. Shohel, UNYSAB President Md. Mamun Mia and UNIC Officer-in-Charge M. Moniruzzaman spoke in the inaugural session. Mr Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Director (UN), Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the chief guest in the closing ceremony. Three were ten Committees in the model UN sessions. The main theme was ‘Empowering Youth for Sustainable Development’.

Content Writing Workshop’ for the Young Contributors

Dhaka, 27 February: UNIC Dhaka and UNV jointly organized a ‘Content Writing Workshop’ for the young contributors. The workshop was held as an outcome of UN Youth Theme Group’s decision to publish a bi-lingual newsletter by the youngsters. The UN Inter-agency Youth Theme Group, lead by UNFPA, was formed in Bangladesh in line with Youth agenda – one of the priorities of UN Secretary-General. UNIC, UNV, UNFPA and UNICEF took lead for publishing a Youth Newsletter by the youth. Mr Mainul Alam, a senior journalist of Daily Ittefaq and President of Diplomatic correspondents Association of Bangladesh worked as a resource person in the workshop. The young participants were actively participated in the workshop. The 1st issue of the newsletter will focus on women empowerment to mark the Int’l Women’s Day. M. Moniruzzaman of UNIC Dhaka and Merel Fuchs of UNV have moderated the session.

UN Youth Theme Group: Workshop on Youth Newsletter



Dhaka, 10 February 2014: A workshop of UN Youth Theme Group Newsletter jointly organized and facilitated by UNIC Dhaka, UNV, UNAIDS and UNFPA held at UNIC library on 10 Feruary 2-14. The workshop begins with Ice-breaking Orchestra Game and participated by youngsters of different youth organizations.  It was recommended that the newsletter should be written and prepared by the youths themselves. UNIC, UNV and UNICEF will facilitate and guide the youths to project youth voices and experiences in various fields and create a platform of exchange. The young participants gave their opinion in producing the newsletter by them that will include youth success stories, leadership, problems and solutions, volunteerism, women issues etc. In this regard, a further workshop on content writing skill will be organized where a senior journalist will work as a resource person.

Round-table Discussion on International Youth Day – 4 August 2013

In observance of Int’l Youth Day, UNIC Dhaka, LIFE (NGO) and Arohon (Youth Group) jointly organized a round table discussion on 4 August 2013 at UNDP Conference room. The Youth Icon of Bangladesh and Mount Everest Conqueror M. A. Muhit was special guest while UNFPA Youth Focal Point and Senior Economist Tauhid Alam presented the key note paper. In his speech, Mr Muhit motivated the youngsters for achieving the targets by community work and dedication. UNIC Officer-in-Charge Kazi Ali Reza asked the young participants for doing the good works through volunteerism while presiding over the session. Week-long Awareness Campaign on Road Safety – 1 August 2013

In line with the UN Global Road Safety Week, UNIC Dhaka, LIFE (NGO) and Arohon (Youth Movement) jointly organized a Week-long Awareness Campaign on Road Safety on 1 August 2013 at Gabtali Bus Terminal in Dhaka. The Deputy Commissioner of Bangladesh Police (Traffic) Mr Ekramul Habib launched the campaign as chief guest while UNIC Officer-in-Charge Kazi Ali Reza spoke on the occasion as special guest. Executive Director of LIFE, President of Arohon, Chairman of Bus and Truck Owners Association and Secretary of Transport Workers Association also spoke on the occassion. Discussion on Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – 30 June 2013

On 30 June 2013, a group of 30 students from different colleges/universities gathered together to discuss the harmful impacts of drug abuse in the society. Each of them had a different and horrifying experience to share with. Some of them suggested special and immediate measures to deal with the menace. The session was organized by UNIC Dhaka in collaboration with the United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSA) to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the Centre OIC Kazi Ali Reza as the key-discussant and KMO Md Moniruzzaman as anchor. Curiosity, peer pressure, loneliness, depression and divorce/separation of parents were identified by the students as the primary causes of drug addiction. Continue reading
