“Public engagement is a critical part in popularizing and branding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level, and participation of young people also needs to be ensured in implementing the SDGs process”, UNIC Officer-in-Charge M Moniruzzaman said during the launch of SDGs campaign in Dhaka University campus on 16 August 2016. Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddique, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka inaugurated the launching event at his conference room. The VC highlighted the role of United Nations in supporting the development process of Bangladesh, especially, he remembered the contribution of a number of UN agencies during and after the liberation war of Bangladesh.

The VC said, Bangladesh did very well in achieving MDGs and hoped that this trend will continue for the implementation of SDGs. The long-term SDGs campaign in DU will be carried-out by Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) in collaboration with UNIC Dhaka. DUMUNA Moderator Professor Delwar Hossain (Dept. of IR) also spoke in the launching and extended his full support in it. Students of different departments affiliated with DUMUNA participated in the programme.
