Dhaka, 29 October 2016: In observance of United Nations Day, UNIC Dhaka jointly with Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) and UN Youth and Student Association of Bangladdesh (UNYSAB) organized a a day-long workshop and Seminar at Dhaka University RC Majumber Hall on 29 September 2016. More than two hundred students from different educational institutions took part in the workshop and seminar. M. Moniruzzaman, UNIC Officer-in-Charge presented the key-note paper and Ms. Mosammat Shahanara Monica, Director (UN), Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke in the seminar as a special guest. Professor Dalem Chandra Barman, Former Vice Chancellor of ASA University and Dr Delwar Hossain, Professor of Dept of International Relations, Dhaka University and Kazi Ali Reza, Director (Communication), Dhaka Ahsania Mission spoke on the ocassion as resource persons. UNYSAB President Mamun Mia and DUMUNA President Wahid Siddique were also present in the seminar. The various procedures of Model UN Conference were discussed in the workshop while the importance and relevance of United Nations Day were focused in the seminar. A photo exhibition was also opened during the sessions. The copies of UN Secretary-General Message on the Day were distributed among all the participants.
Dhaka, 21 December 2014: UNIC Dhaka and Department of Public Libraries/Ministry of Cultural Affairs jointly organized a day-long workshop titled Information Services in Rural Bangladesh – an a2i initiative at Public Library Conference Room on 21 December 2014. Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor MP, Hon. Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs inaugurated the workshop as chief guest while Director General (Additional Secretary) of Public Library Mr Md. Hafizur Rahman presided over. Mr. Nick Beresford, UNDP Country Director, a.i and Dr. Ranjit Kumar Biswas, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs spoke as special guests. The key-note paper was presented by Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, Director, Innovation, Access to Information (a2i) project. Around forty library and information professionals from public, private, NGOs, academic and international institutions took part in the workshop. The workshop was moderated by M. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka.
Dhaka, 27 February: UNIC Dhaka and UNV jointly organized a ‘Content Writing Workshop’ for the young contributors. The workshop was held as an outcome of UN Youth Theme Group’s decision to publish a bi-lingual newsletter by the youngsters. The UN Inter-agency Youth Theme Group, lead by UNFPA, was formed in Bangladesh in line with Youth agenda – one of the priorities of UN Secretary-General. UNIC, UNV, UNFPA and UNICEF took lead for publishing a Youth Newsletter by the youth. Mr Mainul Alam, a senior journalist of Daily Ittefaq and President of Diplomatic correspondents Association of Bangladesh worked as a resource person in the workshop. The young participants were actively participated in the workshop. The 1st issue of the newsletter will focus on women empowerment to mark the Int’l Women’s Day. M. Dhaka, 07 December: UN Library Network in Bangladesh (UN L-Net BD) of UNIC Dhaka and icddr,b Library jointly organized a half-day workshop on ‘Post-2015 Development Agenda’ and ‘E-Information Resources: Where are we’ at icddr,b conference room on 7 December 2013. A total of 40 library and information experts took part in the workshop. UNIC OIC Kazi Ali Reza was the chief guest in the inaugural session while UNIC KMO & Member Secretary of UN Library Network M. Moniruzzaman moderated the workshop. Two papers were presented in the workshop. Kazi Ali Reza presented a paper on ‘Post-2015 Development Agenda’. Another paper on ‘E-information Resourcces: Where are we’ was jointly presented by Sr. Manager of icddr,b Library Dr. Md. Nazimuddin, UNIC Knowledge Management Officer M. Moniruzzaman and Independent University Librarian Hossam Haider Chowdhury.
UNIC Dhaka organized a day-long workshop of UN Library Network in Bangladesh on 13 October 2012.
