UNIC Dhaka commemorated the Nelson Mandela International Day

Dhaka, Tuesday, 18 July 2017: In commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, UNIC Dhaka jointly with ASA University Bangladesh organized a Discussion Seminar and Mandela Day Poster Exhibition on Nelson Mandela’ work, at the university auditorium. Mr. Mahmud Hassan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, GoB was the chief guest of the event while Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Helaluz-Zaman, VC-in-charge, ASA University presided over. Mr. Zahid Hossain, Human Rights Advisor of UNRC Office presented the key-note paper on Mandela’s life-long fight against racism and his sacrifice for the establishment of peace. National Information Officer of UNIC Dhaka delivered an introductory speech and read-out the UN Secretary-General’s Message on the Day. Students of ASA University took part in the open discussion and Q&A session. A Poster Exhibition was also organized at the beginning of the events. The UN Secretary General’s Message on the Day and Universal Declaration of Human Rights were distributed among all the participants.

01 Dhaka, Monday, 18 July 2016: In commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, UNIC Dhaka and United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) jointly organized a Poster Exhibition, Video show and Interactive Discussion Programme at the UNIC Library. Edward Rees, Peace & Development Adviser of UN Resident Coordinators Office, Pem Chuki Wangdi, Head of the UNRC Office and Aaqib Md Shatil, Representative of UNYSAB were present and spoke at the event. M. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of UNIC Dhaka moderated the events. Students from different universities took part in the open discussion and Q/A session to share their views and they pledged to work to create a positive impact in the world which Mandela envisioned. The opening session of the programme began with a Nelson Mandela Photo Exhibition followed by a video show and reading out of UN Secretary General’s Message. The UNSG’s Message on the Day and SDGs promotional materials (Bangla) were distributed among the participants.
